It will start with the spreading of peace. Wish me luck and i hope I can meet you someday.

I pray for Haiti almost everyday and keeping hope alive that someday Haitians can come together as a unified and strong force to make our ancestors proud. It's a shame to see our country exploited not only by our so-called allies but our own people. I do not conform to the hypocrites that cry crocodile tears for Haiti. The greedy are just geting rich and the poor are just getting poorer. If only we true Haitians can just fight power with power and clean house by any means necessary and take back Haiti. Bring back pride, excellent educators, businesses, tourism and provide health care with many our of thousands of physicians, scientists, and technicians. We have to maintain peace in the streets and equal rights to every one! We must empower Haiti and it starts by looking at ourselves to make a change and make a difference!!!

Nothing happens by coincidence. I located this site while browsing for information on Haiti. I'm doing personal research on this country in preparation for our church to do extended mission outreach and development projects there. They previously partnered with other missionaries to help with a school for children, put a roof on a local church and set up a bakery for economic support. Various members recently took sponsorship of the school children for this school year. I'm responsible for developing a fund raising campaign to acquire land, build a mission house, dig a well, add a third floor so the school can go up to 12th grade, and sponsor a missions team to travel to Haiti in 2006. Anyone with resources or suggestions are welcomed to share them. Meanwhile, I ask that everyone that believes in the power of PRAYER will get prayer groups to commit to pray for a s the presidential election which was pushed back to November, then December and most recently to January '06. Pray for a Gdly person with a heart for the people more than for personal wealth to win. Pray for the missionaries that are currently in Haiti that are being kidnapped and are in danger. Finally, I am thankful for this site because it is the first one that shows the beauty of the country and it's people. Our team that went to Haiti in 2003 continues to talk of the warmth and enthusiam of the people. God is looking on Haiti. GET READY FOR POSITIVE CHANGE FUELED BY THE HAND OF GOD ALMIGHTY!!!

I shot a film in Cap-haitien and Labadie in August 2005. I had the pleasure of visiting the Citadel at sunrise. I feel in love w/ Haiti, its music and art. I bought a beautiful painting from Bertelus Myrbel, proudly displayed on my wall.
I plan on returning to shot another film in mid-December. I am aware of the political unrest, but found the hearts of the Haitian to wonderful not to return and try to help raise awareness.

In great misery 12.30.03 They are laughing at me...As I cry for a lending hand...They are laughing at me.
As I weep...Don’t they know the exterior trade manifests this?...My soul is bleeding...My spirit is tired...Who’s crying and accusing God?...I’m lynched before the moon and the American soldiers
Once more since 1804...Mother Haiti, they claim to love...Falling in love with me?...Oh please! Take a look at Judah at the center table! He’s lynched between the moon and the French soldiers
And where will you run to after this brutal communion?...‘Cause you are not in my heart
See! I’m meditating to the sound of the morning dove...Oh brothers, o sisters…Why sell our mother’s land? (I thought you fell in love with Haiti…?)

It has been 13 years since I have last seen my country. I keep closed conctact with my family and friends. I migrated from Haiti in 1992 to the US to get a piece of the American pie. So far, I'm on tract. I have a dual degree in electrical and software engineering. My goal is to go back and share my piece of the American pie with the young generation by helping establsh a better education system at the university level. I had a chance to visit your country with my husband who is Haitian and I must say that I was amazed at some things that I saw. But on the other hand I really enjoyed myself some what. I guess the amazement came in when I stepped out side of the airport in Port-au-Prince and saw the large amount of people standing there waiting on their loved one. The people there are so polite and friendly, I mean they don't have to know you to offer you food or drink. It's not like that here in the States I mean American people are stingy unlike your culture. I plan to go back in the next year or so but I just thought I would let you all know that I have a love for your people and your country I am still working on learning to speak Creole I can understand and say some words.

The situation in Haiti is very dim. It is unfortunate that the Haitian people cannot get together and elect a president who would be concerned about helping the country rather than the agenda of the rich or the poor. The president should be a representative of the majority of the people. The struggle in Haiti has been for too long. It is time for a change. There are many brillant people who are Haitians and they need to come together regardless of class, status or color and lead the Haitian people into prosperity.

Great job on the website. As a son of the Caribbean (Jamaica) I have always been interested in Haiti. I am pleased and inspired to see a thriving Haitian community that is looking back and thinking about the development of their Island. Keep up the struggle and faith and one day Haiti will regain its former glory amongst the nations of the West.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
BIG UP HAITI!

I was deployed to Haiti in late 1994 with the US Army, during "Operation Restore Democracy". After arriving "in country", I fell in love with the place. Coming from a small town in the southern United States, I had not experienced anything like Haiti before. What I mean by that is nowhere I had been before, or since, have I met people with such genuine warmth and kindness as the Haitian people. I eventually volunteered to stay in Haiti, as part of the U.N. Peacekeeping team. I was disappointed when I had to return home after almost a year. Since that time, I have often wondered what has become of the many friends that I made there. I truly hope that the work that we did while we were there was of some positive impact to at least some. One day I hope to return, and reconnect.

I had the pleasure of visiting Haiti last year. My wife had always wanted to go. We flew from New York where we used to live and spent 4 days in Port au Prince. It wasn't the easiest of times when we were there but the people and the city were fantastic. Fantastic website, brings back great memories

I am from Trinidad & Tobago, I am a son of the West Indies. My own son was adopted from Haiti, whose people my wife and I love. We fell in love with Haiti and her people during the 1 year it took to bring our boy home. We visited every month for that year's time and my wife lived in Delmas, PAP for about the first 3 months of the adoption. Haitians are a proud people and I await the day that they regain the greatness that was lost starting some 200 hundred years ago. Haitians Unite!!

Hi, I just want to join all the people who have contributed to make this site a success. It really looks pretty encouraging for Haitians. So guys! keep up the good work, pa lage.
On another note, I would like to get in touch with anyone of my high school days from Lycée Jean Jacques Dessalines (1981-1987). Apart from Moise Dimanche whose name I recognise on the message board, I have not seen any other familiar names, so fellow class or school mates if you are surfing these pages, let post messages for our past school mates to read about us or keep in touch with you. I am so dying to be in touch with my fellow school mates. If you were attending Immaculée Conception de Delmas during the years of 1978-1981, I would also like to hear from you.

I am really enthused to find that there is a site that is taking the time to teach people about our rich and diverse culture, our beautiful arts and artists and many more interesting aspects about Haiti, most of all of how Haiti was before all of these tragic events which took place. I would like to take the time to thank all the people who contributed in creating this site. I have a presentation to do on Haiti next month and I am so content to say I was able to find all my information on this site. Now I am sure I will be able to inform the other nationalities about my country.(sheding some light on the positive aspects). Keep up the good work and hopefully one day soon Haiti will once again become "La Perle Des Antilles".

I came upon your moving statements while reading about the work of FIDA-PCH to promote (non-paternalistically) positive change in Haiti which to them must be based on change of attitudes and human relations. Although not Haitian-born, I share your deep respect for Haitian people and the richness of the Haitian culture. As a Bahá'i I have absolute confidence in the glorious future of Haiti - as the world evolves gradually and painfully (as in child-birth) to a state of greater justice and unity, where the human, artistic and spiritual aspects of life will be appreciated, Haiti's value will become evident.
I seem to be meeting increasing numbers of Haitians living outside the country who are planning to return to work in development or already support efforts from the outside. Recently the training group which I coordinate ("CAFT") conducted four training sessions in the South East as a service to local institutions like CODEVA (Lavallée), which does receive support from outside Valléans. I met Dr. Jn René Charles who brings medical teams to Haiti every year.....
Please keep doing what you are doing!

i really love the way you guys show your love for Haiti on here, we have so many talented haitians and others who want to help restore the people and the face of the country, I'm not only praying each day for the restoration but I'm also getting a degree and experience that will enable me to do my part when the time comes, but in the meantime I educate people on the history of haiti even though my knowledge isn't as extensive as others. I love the motivation, innovation, and inspiration you guys display here. We need to unite like our people did in 1804.

Great! Thank you for opening many Windows on Haiti. Let the light of truth shine so the world can know what Haiti is really like. So many people (including many Haitians) believe that Haiti is a bad place. Haitian have had to live and raise their children under very difficult situations. These situations are engineered and encouraged by student of the Prince (Machievelli). The Truth is a dangerous thing to know and so many Haitians have lost their lives and have had to run away from Home because they have had the courage to talk about it and inform others. The Republican Institute spends so much ressources to discredit any progressive movement in Haiti and Latin America. So many people are brainwashed. The revolution must start in the hearts and minds of all Haitian so we can give meaning to "L'union fait la force" and be strong against a world That has been keeping us down for 200 hundred years just because we dared to be free. Wathc your back in Babylon, watch out for the hypocr ites. I would say more but time does not permit. Thank you for this website and keep up the good work. Haiti is beautiful and 99% of Haitian are beautiful you can see it through their eyes, windows to the soul. Much Love , Peace and Justice. One Heart Roots.

I had the oppertunity of traveling to Haiti on a cruz to Lombardi which wasn’t exactly on the Island, but was close enough , I think as a people we need to focus on our home like others do and start giving back by going home with what education we do have and build up our country. Despite many things, social, political and ecomincal problems Haiti is struggling right now, I can say that I'm proud to be Haitian and I will never regret being born and raise on my motherland.Cause I have so many souvenirs which are hard to forget.I was born at Jacmel and grew in Port au prince( la plaine).I went to St louis de bourdon High School and left Haiti in november 2001 to the United States.
For those haitian people who are reading me, I encourage you to raise your dear country up, show people that we do care and also that we are a patriot by your participation. If you or me don't do it who'se gonna do it; stranger? Mes compliments for your wonderful website. I've bookmarked it and browse it often to remind me of the reasons that I love my native country. I co-founded a non-profit organization called Haitian Health Allies that helps persons infected or affected by HIV in Southeast Haiti. This work has brought me in contact with the people of Jacmel. The seaside province is known for its arts and imaginative carnival. I recommend that visitors to Haiti take a side trip to Jacmel ($35 US small plane flight from P-au-P). Visit our website haitianhealthallies.com to learn about our mission.

Thank you so much for taking the time to create this beautiful website. I was born and raised in the U.S. However, my father did as you do and taught us all he could about his native land while we were growing up. I am now tri-lingual (French, English, Kreyole) thanks to the patience of my mother and have a great respect for my root country. I will do my part to spread the word on your beautiful website.

Thank you for this website, which has helped me to get the correct spelling of towns/geographical areas in Haiti for a project I am assisting on. I only wish the "random proverb" could appear also in English, for those of us who need to learn more and do not know Creole. I feel uplifted this morning visiting your website, and I will return often.

Dear friends, I am glad to come back and submit my opinion on the new development of arm sales to the Haitian police force. This is another sign that any Haitian government in power in Haiti is not willing to do what is best for the country. The news of arm sales by the United States to the Haitian interim government proves to all of us Haitian living in the United States and elsewhere working hard to support our families back home and the country for that matter that these people don't get it. And it seems that they will ever get it.
If it is not for hard working Haitian living outside the country, Haiti would probably become another Ethiopia because the elite refuse to contribute in order to ease hunger and the stagnant scene of poverty the continues to tear the nation into pieces, the chronicle disease of the 21st century. I wonder why this government needs to spend $ 1.6 millions to buy weapons instead of investing the money on education, health care, and food to feed millions of hungry people the country has. I believe they think that 1.6 millions of dollars will not go far on reducing hunger. It is probably true, but until someone or anyone initiates it, the concept of caring for people and their families will never be a reality in our beloved country, Haiti.
Peace!

I am working on a case study for a Comparative Public Administration class. I have been looking at any source of information to get a broad sense of what Haiti is and this is the best website I have found. I love the way you reflect the sense of Haitian people in a variety of activities. As organized as this website is, I hope to see the life of my Haitian brothers and sisters living in Haiti. Congratulations! You are doing more for Haiti than billions of dollars!
P.S. You made me laugh with the comments about language in the forums. I am from Mexico and have a bunch of similar stories to tell...

I was born in Haiti and was brought up in the United States when I was a child, and I was raised by my mother. I love Haiti but I think that we as the people that live and were born in it should do something to help the country and to free it from poverty. We need to help build and reconstruct the country. It might take a lot of money but there is a lot of us. Let's put our heads together and help our loving country!!!

The beautiful memories that I have of my country will never leave me. We are interested in opening up to Haiti and would love to hear the adoption stories of families with children from Haiti. We realize that there is a great need for the orphaned children of Haiti to be placed in loving and secure homes and we hope to begin working with Haitian adoptions in the near future. Any information about the adoption process in Haiti and your experience with it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Katy

wow. Yes, I heard that Haiti was a VERY poor country -- the poorest country in the western hemisphere. My teacher was saying that when he went there, there was a lady at the airport (she was Haitian) who was trying to give the teacher's wife her baby. She was begging her to take it! That's pretty freaky, I thought. So yeah, I wanted to find out more about this place. Your site looks pretty. I LOVE the artworks. There are pretty talented artists in Haiti.

I am a slightly frequent visitor to Haiti. I am intrigued by the many beautiful pictures on your web site. Your photographers have truly captured the Beloved Haiti that I have come to appreciate so much. I copied a letter and have kept it in my file for a couple of years now - "A Letter To A Blan" by Sabine Albert, 1998 - I would like to know if there is any way that I could send this writer a special thank you? I don't understand every statement in the letter, but I must say that the writer has truly affected my life and love of Haiti - to the positive. I too, see the great love, sacrifice, and faith of the Haitian people, and share this side of Haiti with every one that I can share it. Thank you for providing such a fantastic opportunity for folks to learn more of what I love to call - My Haiti Cheri.

This is a great website. I am interested in learning more about Haitians in South Florida. I have always worked in human rights issues and knew some political and socio-economic information about Haiti, but had never lived in and amongst so many Haitians, though I did have experiences with the Haitian communities in Boston years back. It's nice to get on the bus (mA-cheen) here and to ride with and observe and interact with people from Haiti, and then to find your website and to learn so much. Thank you.

I have never stopped browsing your website to get my daily news of Haiti. Although saddened and depressed to see what have become of the land that was supposed to proudly celebrate its 200th anniversary of independence, I sincerely thank you for allowing me the opportunity to stay in touch with that part of myself which I cannot disconnect with. Today, when looking at the current situation in Haiti, many of us are bleeding deeply inside. I personally feel betrayed by all of those who still refuse to give a chance Haiti so she can move forward. I sometimes ask myself: why can't we Haitians look at nations that became independent years after us, but don't have our problems? What did our ancestors do wrong for them not to be able to rest in peace 201 years after winning a well fought war? Where are the love, respect, proud, and connection that we Haitians should have had for the land our ancestors fought so hard to give to us? Do we really know our history or we just don't care? Why do we Haitians always put our self-interest above that of the country? Why do we still want to serve the Master at the expense of destroying the country 201 years after our independence? Why can't we at least look at the Americans and see how much they love and care about their land? Many of us have either visited or lived in other countries beside Haiti. Have we at least taken the time to observe and learn how those countries function? How can we advance as an independent nation when we do not want to erase the division that exists among us? We should never forget that a man without a land of his is not a man. The more we Haitians are behaving in such a destructive way, the faster the country will be destroyed until one day the luckiest(?) ones among us wake up one morning and find that Haiti has disappeared.

Guy,

What I like to say is I like this site. It has all the information about Haiti specially the cooking recipes. But what I wish for Haiti is to have a very strong fondation where everyone could donate whatever from everywhere so we could help these people out there. Together we could make a difference.

I just went back from Haiti, and for what I have seen there, it seems there is no hope for the future. This does not mean that there was hope, but this time it is really bad. I was there last year with my wife, and we both somewhat were pleased for the prospect of the country. Even though it was not safe to be there. Businesses were florishing in a gangster type of environment. The only thing was people were smiling; this time they are grimly mad, and they have reasons to be so. When I look at the lavish life style a small group of people are leaving and the rest of country is crumbling in starvation, on wonder the country cannot be in peace, and no wonder these people cannot go to Bel-Air, La Saline, and Cite Soleil. And with this government in place,it seems the situation worsens because the elite that do not want the country to be in peace in order to place themselves as superior do not care about the masses. All they care about is making money and profitting from whatever situation that is unfolded. What happened last year did not have anything to do with Aristide be a tyrant. It had to be with the elite that saw that power and privileges were drifting away. These people are making a bundle of money in the country; they do not want pay taxes, and they complain about everything from road repair to electricity, et pour ne citer que cela. I hope very soon that these people think about how they are messing up with the future of the next generation.

I have been trying to re-establish contact with a young Haitian woman in Montreal that I was very good friends with. I met her when I was in Montreal in September/October 2000. Her name is Regine Pierre and she is about 30 years old although she looks younger. She had completed a qualification in clothing design and was working for a small firm that made awnings and canvas goods I think. She had started studying to become a nurse.
I knew her email address, phone number and postal address but all of these changed about a year ago. I have tried ringing a few people in Montreal but I can't speak French so I haven't made much progress. I just know she moved into an apartment about a year ago.
If you can help please email me.

I am so glad to see a website that has positive and informative information about Haiti! I am an African American Peace Corps Volunteer living and working in Uzbekistan and our school is planning the second African Heritage Fair this comming Spring. The purpose of the Fair is to promote awareness and understanding of people of African descent(Black Diaspora) This year we are representing Haiti and the kids are excited. We will study 6 elements of your country: History, People/Culture; Arts & Entertainment; Sports; Food and Wildlife. Our rules for reseaching the countries is NOT to use negative, stereotypical info but only positive and rich information. That includes pictures too. Can you help us. We are asking your permission to copy some pictures for our display booth. These will not be sold or taken from the school. They will be used for educational purposes only. Thank you and God bless Haiti!

After searching all over the web I finally found a site that truly represents Haiti at its best. Thus I was born in Haiti I had to rely on books to learn about Haiti. Indeed, I may have left Haiti young, but my heart never left. Before there was ever a Wyclef Jean I was that young fanatic Haitian boy who was always proud to say that I'm Haitian. By the age of 12 my mother, who was a teacher in Haiti, was amazed at how much I knew about Haiti historically. I just love the beautiful and refreshing pictures of Haiti on this site. Keep up the great work and let's combat the negative images that the media have bestowed on Haiti by bettering ourselves. Haiti has more to do with us than just a piece of land. We are Haiti. HAITI FOREVER!

Mon cher Antoine,
I am very optimistic somehow, a light of freedom will be bright one day for Haiti, Manman cheri nou an, where human rights, justice and the constitition will be respected, and protected.
I do believe one day, Haiti will have a chance to be born again where ideology will not be the primary focus, instead the welfare of the Haitian people will be the focus of our statesmen and leaders. I dream of such Haiti, but in order for this to happen, we Haitians, must work together. Let's hope this new year (2005) shines positively on Haiti.
Regards,
S. Renaud; BS,MBA

Hello,
It has been a while since I have been to "Windows on Haiti". Nevertheless, I am back. A while back I was very interested in helping other Haitians using what ever talent that I possess. My father, the late Dr. Francis Antoine, was one of the pioneers of the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad(http://www.amhe.org/). I vaguely remember the days when he and his best friend, Dr. Serge Bontemps, would meet with their group in order to come-up with great ideas to help Haiti. I am so proud of my father's contribution to the organization and to Haiti. I am equally proud of Dr. Serge Bontemps, and the other doctors in the organization, for keeping their visions alive.
Unlike Dr. Bontemps and my father, I am not a physician. I am a Software Engineer working for a company in Princeton NJ. knowing what my personal talents are, I would like to see what I can do to contribute to Haiti, similar to my father.
I am personally interested in promoting Haitian Soccer, via a dedicated website. The reason why is because I love the sport and remember how much my father loved the sport as well. Last year I had the opportunity to speak with Manno Sanon and it was great!! I was able to talk to him about his days when he played in Don Bosco club of Petionville. I also spoke to him about the 1974 World Cup Finals. Although I only spoke to him on the phone, it was great hearing the Haitian legend speak. He was even nice enough to send me two signed books that were written about him. As much as I can, I have been following Haitian soccer. The Haiti vs. Brazil exhibition, and the Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids signing of Jean Philippe Peguero(a Haitian player who also once played for Don Bosco), are just a few things that I have been following. I say all this to say that I am very interested in continuing to follow Haitian Soccer. But, I would like to do it in a way that I can help the world know more about Haitians in the World of soccer. And hopefully this can help in motivating other Hatians to support Haitian soccer. Presently, I am in need of contacts in order to make this happen. If any of you have any contacts that are useful, or if you simply would like to talk about this further, feel free to email me at: jantoine-at-gmail.com.
Thanks for your time.
A la prochaine,
Jean Patrick Antoine

I have taken all my time to read the thoughts of everyone who has signed, I, Benoni Bazile, of Haitian nationality, born in Limbé on February 2, 1977, feel that I too have something to say.
Everywhere we go they look down on us. I say no, they are wrong and I have the confidence that we can prove them wrong. Nelson Mandela did prove them wrong, and today if a Black person has the privilege of traveling first class it's because of Martin Luter King Jr. He said he had a dream. We, Haitians, also have a dream, a dream that it won't be long before our brothers and sisters put their heads together and stop fighting. When will we start loving each other and stop fighting for whatever political party we have in Haiti, so our country could look as it did in 1804? Let us give the country to God and He will do the rest.
If any one has any comment or something to say about what I have written here, please e-mail me. We have a group of men here in the Turks & Caicos Islands who are willing to do what is best for their community. We need the support of our people. It isn't about politics. We are just willing to do what is good for our community. If someone wants to join us the door is open, so you could be a member of this community. Call us if you have any good opinion. We are waiting for your call, 1-649-241-3941 or 1-649-243-3455.

This is a very beautiful site, and I'm very impressed by Windows on Haiti. I feel that this site will help Haitians, and other nationalities to have a more accurate and in depth understanding about Haiti. I am extremely happy to find your site, and I have to say that I was very moved by your introduction.
I really love the photos, because they look so beautiful, and very peaceful. Looking at those photos really make me want to go back to Haiti to live, even though it's been a very long time since I left.
I love the cooking recipes especially the Tonm-Tonm au Calalou, Marinades, and Accras de malanga, because I've tried all of them, and they taste so delicious.
The Haitian Art Sampler looks very beautiful, but I have to say that my favorite is " Maternité " by Roger Francois.
I love the music section, because most of my favorite artists are on this website. The following are my favorite artists: Carimi, Emeline Michel, Zin, and Jacques Sauveur Jean. They are great singers, and their songs are very well written, and the lyrics are very meaningful.
This is my first time visiting this site, and it won't be my last. People can really learn a lot from this site, because I most certainly did, and I enjoy every bit of what I learned. I am well pleased from what I see, and I will tell everyone I know to take a look at it, and I'm sure they will feel the same.
I wish you the best, and pray that the Lord will bless you all for your continued strength, and success in life.
Once again, congratulation for putting this site together, and don't give up.
Thank you, and God bless.

Thanks a lot Guy, your work is greatly appreciated. The stamina you're empowered is already a big contribution to our Nation's present day.

Hello, I am so excited I found this page and I really appreciate the people who make this site. I came from Haiti since 1998. I don't have a lot of friends in here and I would like to make some friends (not for relationship, please). Because I have one already. So just friends who know themselves and also have a positive attitude, honesty, and respect for others. Thank you all, peace out!

Searching the web I found your site which really enlightened me on Haiti, the Haitians and the Lecture by Frederick Douglass really was an awakening. I am very impressed with this site. I have written advanced curriculum for Montgomery County Public School French courses focusing exclusively on Haiti. I want to thank Guy Antoine for allowing some borrowing of the Web Site. I think 500 miles from Miami, Haiti needs to be much more in the forefront of the thoughts and hopes of American students. Now I am sponsoring a child through the organization FOCAS and am always looking for ways to get involved, travel there, and get the school community to sign on to the cause. I am also interested in organizing a cultural exchange with a high school in Haiti if possible. Any ideas, let me know.

Hello, You have a nice website. I'll be brief. Please beware of the activities of the U.S. based Church of God (Anderson ) in your country. I have reason to believe that certain individuals using this church's missions are scheming to cash in on the IMF/WB reconstruction monies to enrich themselves. These people bear watching. Best of luck and God bless your fair land.

I was quite happy that I stumbled onto this site. I am an African-American. I lived and worked in Haiti for 3 years (93-96) and am returning in August. I am sure that you are aware of the university in Cayes. I am returning to teach there for the coming academic year. It is very much in need of support and resources to help the Haitian people thrive and discover their true identity and true place in the world. Your prayers and support can make all of the difference for a people that has very little hope and very few resources.

Greetings,
Thanks for your powerful words. I have just started to visit the Haitian sites and undoubtedly, Windows on Haiti struck a chord. Like you I left Haiti at a young age, yet I have remained attached to the land body and soul. I am now a physician and your encouraging words come to me at a time where I am working on a project to set up a medical clinic and a school in Haiti. I will certainly revisit this site again and hopefully engage with my fellow compatriots on the little things that we can do to serve the motherland.

I love this site. Mr. Antoine had sent me an email this past January about our History. I loved it so much that I sent a copy to all of my friends and people who did not know anything about Haiti. I had wanted to express my feelings of appreciation, however I lost contact. I just got this address this morning and knew that I could not leave without saying a few words. It is Haitians like you that makes Haiti a better place and gives us hope of returning home. Please continue with the good work and may God bless you.

I am writing advanced French curriculum for a very large school district outside of D.C. It is called Montgomery County Public Schools. My goal is to promote knowledge and interest in Haiti among high school students. May I have your permission to use materials from your website while citing and referring students to go there to see more? I promise never to use anything without citing the site.

I lived in South Haiti for 11 years and grew very close to the people of that area. My husband continues to visit almost every year, accompanying a urology team to a hospital there. We may yet return more permanently, now that our children are on their own. Haiti Cheri!

I just completed a mission trip to Haiti to work at Village of Hope in Ganthier. Having had several Haitian children in my classroom, I was eager to see the country they left but still held deeply in their hearts. It was easy to see why they left, but also why their hearts remained there. I too fell in love with the people and the rhythm of Haiti. The people are an incredibly strong people and deserve life to be easier for them. I vow to go back and help them, but more importantly - for them to help me to grow so much in my faith and my love for mankind. Bless the people of Haiti! I miss them with all my heart.

I was in Haiti 3 years ago in order to help a children home in Leogane. I went in Jacmel, Pandiassou and Cap-Haïtien too but I've got no news from people I met in these places. I'm a bit worried by events last month about politics, disorders, and now about floods. I would have been relieved if I had news from Brother Armand Francklin in Pandiassou if possible. Can somebody inform me? Thanks a lot for creating this site which is highly interesting!
I miss Haitian people who taught me so much!

I love any web site about Haiti. It really makes other Haitians like me get into history. I'm Haitian and as always I would be very mad if some say that I wasn't, because being a Haitian to me is like having my own country. It's like having something you always wanted. I really love your web site because some of the information you find here you can't find anywhere else. So thank you for thinking of Haiti m' renmen anpil.

It's about time my Haitian people and Haiti finally get recognized and put on the map. Growing up in the Bahamas was somewhat hard, going to school and people calling you all types of names; now i'm on the police force and can speak and get all types of information from the Haitian community; now everyone wants to be my friend and wants me to teach them the language and that makes me feel great. This is a super web site. Keep up the super work.

My high school students have sponsored a public awareness forum on Haiti - just a week ago. Next week they will presenting at another community forum sponsored by a library. Your website is a beautiful tribute to the people and land that my students know so little about, yet have realized that they must act to inform others of its rich culture, beautiful people and land in order to alleviate misery and suffering. Young Americans do have big hearts which connect and feel a kinship with other young people in the world. I believe that they need adults who provide opportunities for understanding the lives of others which in turn leads them to action. My own students have been overwhelmed by the way their communities are responding to their small presentation. They are seeing the ripple effect of their energies grow into something much larger than they imagined! We hope to honor your country and people through our efforts in our little corner of the world while possibly contributing to a larger movement that will bring change to Haiti. Merci!

Hi people of Haiti, my heart is close to you. Take heart and praying and trusting in the Almighty God. Im sure what is happening there is as a result of the International community not minding about certain countries and communities. Why should America feel for the people of Iraq and take almost no action to her neighbours, this is really unfair. I note another thing, how many countries have opened up the their embassies or have diplomatic relations with Haiti. Haiti! true African.

I was in Port au Prince in 1994-95 with the U.S. military. I felt for the people there and I thought what we were doing would help the situation there. It saddens me today to see that all of our efforts to help during that time have faded into nothing more than brief memories of poverty and uneducated people who have no true want to better themselves with education.

I want to do something for the people of Haiti. Far be it from me to be a "wealthy foreigner traipsing in to tell others how they should be doing things"...but nevertheless something must be done for Haiti. My analysis of the situation is that Haiti needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. The first thing she needs as a nation is a good and stable government truly interested in the welfare of the people. Beyond that there could be several approaches but the most important two in my estimation are clean water...and education, two things taken for granted in the US. It will take time, a great deal of effort, cooperation from the people and a tremendous amount of money, but Haiti could be restored. There is something else Haiti needs, much more than any of the very important things I have mentioned: the love of Jesus Christ. Only with the help of the Lord God Almighty, powerful to save, can Haiti truly be restored both in body and spirit.

FANTASTIC.I stumble upon your website and I am so glad I did. In 1996 I had the honour and pleasure of staying in Haiti for two months with a Christian group from the U.K. We built a classroom for a college near to Port-de-Paix.We also helped and played with the children in "The House of Hope" in the hospital grounds.(I wonder what has happened to Kenny) I have many photographs of this wonderful country but the best images are etched on my heart. A country of unsurpassed beauty. People who always smile, even when they have nothing. A country that deserves stability and prosperity, a country that should be removed from the shadows and shown to the world..My prayers are with you Haiti. If it be God's will I look forward to my return. Anyone who has news from the hospital, please use my email address. Thanks again.

I have been visiting Haiti for many years and have visited many areas, particularly Ennery, O Cayes, O Kap. I am celebrating the 200 years of Independence. I am in awe of the people of Haiti and their continued faith. My prayers are always with all of Haiti that one day TRUE freedom will come to all my sisters and brothers.

M swete pou tout bagay ka vin chanje pou moun Gonayiv yo bay peyi a youn chans espesyalman lekòl la. Mezanmi si ansyen paran nou yo te konn chita nan fè dezòd tout lasentjounen, jodia nou pa tap gen konesans pou n ap mache kraze brize. I went to Haiti for a mission trip with my church 2 summers ago and it was such an amazing trip that I will never forget. Now seeing what some Haitians go through down there, I will never take what we have here in the United States for granted. Well this is truly an amazing website.

Hello my name is Yves Estime. I would like to make a difference in the Haitian society. In order for me to do that, i will need your help. I want to learn about the social history of Haiti, the men that fought the battles to claim our independence from Jean Jacques Dessalines to Jean Bertrand Aristide, and the geography of Haiti and also the laws.
Write to me, please.

My name is Karl Georges. I was born in Haiti in the 1980's. I grew up with a sense of pride instructed by my parents. As a growing and talented Haitian I had the opportunity to observe that we all we can but that we are scared and that's one thing that makes nervous about my own people. I love my country and I think that if we simply apply ourselves to change so that no matter what comes up we stand by each other to face it, we will be surprised to realize how many times we were losing, criticizing or judging, while leaving the piece of land we have fought for behind. This is a thought that I have for every single Haitian born across the world, you don't have to believe me, you don't even have to read this But if you do, remember that "sa ki pou ou se pa w l ap toujou ye". Ou pa ka kraze sa k pa w ki koute chè.

I must congratulate Guy Antoine, for the new format of his web site. I was very disapointed when this site was briefly taken off the air since I know Guy had worked so hard. This site is one of the most dynamic Haitian sites out there. Everyday something changes in it, which must be attributed to Guy Antoine's dedication and hard work. I especially like the homepage which contain various positive aspects of Haitian life. Again congratulations, Guy!

I first went to Haiti in 1977 as a houseguest of Selden Rodman and then spent every winter there till 1985. In 1978 I married a native of Jacmel in that town. Two years later we had a daughter in Santa Fe, NM. La jacmelienne and I have been divorced for some time now, but we get along well and because of our connection with our daughter (who has now graduated from university), I have a permanent connection to Haiti. The only time I have been back since was the winter of 1999-2000. Currently I am a professor for the university of Maryland in Europe, but am anxious to keep my knowledge and connections to Haiti alive and growing. This is not only a great website for Haiti matters, it is a great website, period. Thanks for all your efforts.

Just found your site... I find your site attractive, interactive and very informative. I am very proud of the Haitian community abroad. This website is just one more fine example. This is why I believe that if Haiti is going to be successful and rid itself of the stalemate it finds itself in today, it is going to take the "international community of Haitians" to bring that change about. For we have been abroad and know that there is a better way.
Thanks for a great Haitian site,

Hello: It's been a while since I left a message on this board. I just want to wish peace and God sent blessings for the island nation of Haiti, in the coming year. As I stated before if the entire African diaspora were to come together that would truly be a blessing. However I am encouraged by what's going on in Fondwa. As a matter of fact everywhere you look within the diaspora there are pockets of hope. We just need to get past the negative. With that said, GOD BLESS HAITI. (Bob Marley said it best: ONE LOVE)

You posted a message on December 10 from Yverose Tuinstra from the Netherlands who was seeking some help to find her biological parents. In her message, she wrote "I'm looking for my parents, can you help me find them? I was born on 30 September 1983 in Cap Haitien. I hope to hear from you soon. I don't have many information about my parents but do you know "mama mita" and "pater Pinas"?
I am happy to let you know that I know "Mama Mita" and "Pere Pinas" and have since passed on her message for further handling hoping that she can be helped in some way. Pere Lespinasse founded an orphanage in the 70's and still oversees its operation today. In that role, he worked tiredlessly to identify families with the means, qualifications and interest to adopt or offer a home for children whose future would otherwise be very difficult.
It pleases me to participate in this forum where Haitians have the ability to help other Haitians. You obvioulsy deserve credit for the initiative you have taken to provide us all to make a difference.
Happy holidays to you and your Team.

Haiti may be referred to as the poorest country in the western hemisphere, but to me It is the country of my birth; the country without the thought of which I can't breath.
Haiti is the country that so many refuse to understand, but one that countless are dying for, both inside and outside its borders. And I am both hopeful and convinced that one day the bells of "Liberty"- as our true leader, my one and only President Jean Bertrand Aristide so gracefully put it in his latest U.N address, will ring for ever loud to the four corners of the world.
Haiti will one more time show them- those who vow to fight and kill our freedom won through blood and tears-, yes Haiti will show those hyppocrites and blood suckers that we mean business when we say, "We are a free country, and our land is not for sale."
For once in our history, we finally have a true leader; a leader who cares about his people and is willing to sacrifce his life so we, the true children of Haiti, can get respect. What is his reward now that they can no longer count on the "occupation army" to craft all sorts of Coups? They are using all sorts of insults to get to their shameful end. But they will not succeed. I want the Haitian Government to stand firm and defend its right to exist, because they've earned it with the latest universal franchise: by the people and for the pople.
Long live Haiti!!!
Long live the Haitian pride and Liberty!!!
Down with all machinations to overturn our stability!!!
Haiti Forever free!!!
With the love that never dies, I love you, Haiti, and may God The "Tue God" bless you.

Bonjour !

GREAT SITE!
I am a proud Haitian who have been living in the United States for almost 15 years. I moved to South Florida in 1988, since then I've only seen the sunrise and sunset in Haiti once and that was in August 2000...... It breaks my heart to see what corrupted leaders turned our beautiful country into.

Thank you for such a great web site. I left Haiti in my teenage years and I am so honored to be Haitian and to be born in a country that has so much history. I know it's a long journey for Haiti but I know in my heart one day we all (Haitians) will be obligated to stand together to repair our country because it is the only.
Thank you again.

I was encouraged by a comment that stated we as black people in America should be responsible for helping to reinvigorate our culture, our communities and our destiny thoughout the diaspora. I just happened to be surfing the net for info or sites on Haiti (right now I'm still checking out the site which is a journey of discovery for me). Black people, we have so much work to do as far as uplifting our communities throughout the world is concerned. Our self image is one place to start. We can`t always depend on the European or American media to convey positive images about us, Sometimes we have to do this ourselves. Man I appreciate this windowonhaiti, thank you and may God bless you and may God bless our people`s effort throughout the diaspora to become truly free and truly independent.

I really like Haiti a lot. I was down there about a month ago on a mission's trip with my church. We stayed with radio 4VEH for one week then we went south to Pignon and worked with Pasteur Caleb Lucien. Haiti is a great country and I hope to come back and visit someday.

A friend just told me about your site, (which is quite interesting and informative) and suggested that I tell you about a Haiti 2004 Art Calendar which I just published. It has 12 images of Haiti and its people and narrates on the back the history of its fight for independence. Beside some museum giftshops and bookstores, it is also available on amazon.com and calendars.com and will soon be on cushcity.com. You can view it on my website at: www.yolenelegrand.com (click on CALENDAR).

Your website is well organized. It educates a lots about Haiti and its culture. I enjoyed browsing your news & links to get my weekly news on Haiti. The Arts section is very informative. Never in my lifetime had I seen before so many haitian paintings. The web site not only connects Haiti to us, it also allows us to live the Haitian life away from Haiti. You have a lot of data for students who want to do research on Haiti. And for researchers, you have facts that can help them throughout their researches. Keep up the good work and stay professional.

The Royal and Noble Arms of the Kingdom of Haiti
Dear Sir,
I am a member of the Yorkshire Heraldry Society in the United Kingdom. From time to time I have given short lectures to our members on different aspects of heraldry. I was fascinated to read recently about the heraldry of Haiti founded by your King Henry in 1811. I thought it would make an interesting lecture and wondered if you had any digital pictures of the Coats of arms of the following:
King Henry
The Prince Noel
The Prince des Gonaives
Duc de l’Anse
Duc de l’ Artibonite
Duc de la Marmelade
Duc de Morin
Comte de Limonade
Baron de Beliard
Baron de J Latortue
Baron de Leveille
Chevalier de Lecoute
Any brief information about the arms would also be of interest.
Thank you
Malcolm Lobley

America is my birth country but God made Haiti my heart country. I am so blessed by "windowsonhaiti" and it deeply informs me. I travel to Haiti about four times a year. I believe in the people of Haiti. Something new and wonderful is going to happen there. God draws me to this land and I would love to invite anyone to contact me if they are interested in helping to serve in Haiti. It is an honor to have wonderful Haitian brothers and sisters.
Thank you for your site of Windowsonhaiti.....I really appreciate it. I read what you have to say and I agree with you totally.....I pray and I work to cause America and Christians to see what we HAVE NOT DONE for a dear friend in the country of Haiti. I love Haiti. I have been there 41 times in the past ten years. I hope that I have the strength to keep on. Again, I want to say thank you...I love your site.

My dear Haiti, I hope one day to go back home. I would like to see my country develop and prosper. This is not going to happen soon because politicians in Haiti do not want the nation to be united. I am very sad to see my brothers and sisters live in this desperate and horrendous economic hardship. I believe that the moment will come for Haiti to be liberated from its internal traitors. For those who have gone to Haiti, the work we do should be selfless and our pride should be silent. It should not be charity, we should help only because we are human too. For those who will go to Haiti, it is beautiful, it just takes compassion, love and an open mind to understand its beauty. Don't be misled, follow the path of Jesus. As for Haiti: Mwen sonje timoun, mwen sonje Ayiti.

Haiti is like an old lady who once was young and beautiful. However, Haiti is not ugly because it is old but because it has been abused and overused by those who were not able to appreciate and preserve the beauty of our land. It is a pity that my children will never know the Haiti that I grew up in. I love my country and I know that one day God will give back to Haiti its beauty, its wealth... and once again Haitians will be happy and proud.

Yes, America needs to evince more concern about Haiti; but speaking as a black man in America, African-Americans need to do more for Haitians as well. There are more black millionaires in America than any other place. Thus, African-Americans have themselves to blame for the poverty of Haiti. If African-American had a true sense of history, assistance would have been given years ago. Imagine if Opray, Michael Jordan, and Michael Jackson had a sense of history in reference to their people. Yes, they may give a few dollars here and there but it's nothing more than peanuts when it comes to the sacrifices of a L'Ouverture, a Denmark Vesey, a Nat Turner, or a Harriet Tubman or Frederick Douglass. Can you imagine Jews doing so well and not helping their own people? Furthermore, Haitian-Americans need to do more to help the cause. There are more Haitians doctors in Canada than there are in Haiti itself. So often blacks in America leave the stench of the backwaters and begin sailing down the freshwaters of mainstream America and other places, forgetting about their own drowning brothers and sisters. African-Americans have become so individualistic, so selfish that it has become a shameless hypocrisy, thinking they got where they are based upon their own merits. African-Americans have become so consumed in their own superfluity, comtemplating their economic portfolio as opposed to their social portfolio. For instance, everybody can come to America other than the Haitians; and African-Americans voices are silent as opposed to Cuban-Americans who would raise holy censored if Cubans are not allowed to stay in America once they cross the waters. It is best if blacks would start with themselves as opposed to starting with the world. It is not our responsible to get the world straight or to get the nation fixed, but to deal with our own problems first; and one of our problems is the abject poverty in Haiti. If nothing more, blacks owe a great measure to Toussaint L'Ouverture as the One who led the only successful black revolution in the western hemisphere.
I visited Haiti last summer to assist with some medical supplies and other articles in the La Vallee de Jacme. It was a great experience and I hope to do more. I am a member of Volunter for Peace...

I thank God for this opportunity that I am able to talk to my Haitian friends online even though I am far away from my dear motherland. My wish is to be one of the greatest Haitian leaders and one that could save Haiti from its poverty. Thanks everyone and God bless.

Hello, my name is Serge Olivier. I have learned more about my heritage in the last three months of reading on your web site than I have my entire life on my own. I am 29 years old, just married Dec 28 2003 in Jamaica. I was born in America from parents both from Haiti and I have never been there. My wedding in Jamaica was the first time out of the United States. I have been longing to know more about Haitian History and your web site has been such a blessing. I have learned that the greatest resource of Haiti has yet to be applied to its fullest potential: its people. I have searched and found some organizations that are trying to improve the entire Caribbean area. There is information on where we are in comparison to the rest of the Caribbean and where we need to be and more importantly how to get there.

The people of Haiti are a proud people, with a great language. It doesn't matter what people say, as long as the people have faith and confidence in their native country. We, African Americans are proud but not as proud as those from Haiti. As a matter of fact, we take too much for granted. I love the music, the people, and the spirit Haitians have afforded me. May God pour out his blessings on our peoples!

Dear Mr. Antoine,
I was feeling blue and indeed was rather upset after a bad day at work. It's midnight and I cannot sleep. I came to the computer and logged on to windowsonhaiti and the music just went right though me. It helped me to remember who I am. It helped me find that strength that we Haitians carry in abundance considering all we go through but that life in the states makes you forget you had. Thank you for such beautiful music. Living here in Kansas City Mo, I feel cut off from my roots at times. Thank you for this web site and for all the good work you do and display on it. We are a beautiful people, nation and if given half a chance, we could do so much.

Happy to have stumbled on this website. I worked for many years on cruise ships and freighters that called at Port-au-Prince and met so many Haitians that became my friends. Unfortunately, the years pass and I lost touch with some and others died. Can anyone tell me anything about Carlos and his wife who ran Carlos´ shop in Port-au-Prince? Carlos later opened up a shop in St. Thomas selling the same Haitian products he sold in Port-au-Prince. Anyone know what happened to Adeline who ran tours for Agence Citadelle? I have many happy memories of El Rancho Hotel, Hotel Olafson, Jacqueline´s Restaurant, but above all the good natured people of Haiti. The vendors were persistent in trying to sell their wares, but always good-natured. The streets were always safe. My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon in Port-au-Prince. I shall never forget in January of 1971 when my ship, the Santa Paula, was sailing from Port-au-Prince for the last time, how all the Haitian stevedores and other dock workers followed the ship as it moved down the pier, singing Auld Lang Syne. It still breaks me up. I would so like to see Haiti again, but I´m afraid it´s not in the cards.

Ki lè pou nou sispann sanble ak pye kafe devan palmis
Li lè!
Wi li lè pou yo sispann pran nou pou sèvyèt pye
Li lè pou zòt sispann mache sou nou
Pou yo sispann pran nan men nou san kondisyon

I have lived in Haiti for 14 years and now I live in Miami. I have never thought that my country had such beautiful places, mountains and beaches. I think you are doing a great job by taking all those pictures and showing others what Haiti really looks like and how beautiful that island is... I hope you succeed in any plans that you have to help the population.
Thank you.

I loved visiting this site. I am first generation Haitian/American. Both my parents are Haitian. I think that you should tap into the resources of the children of Haitians that immigrated to the US. I think there are a lot of us that would like to help the land of our blood but we don't know what or where we should go to help.
Thank you.

Malgre soufrans, imiliasyon, touman, tèt chaje, nou toujou kanpe ak fòs ak kouray. annou wè si nou ta kapab mete kouray sa yo ansanm pou nou fè yon chanjman pou Ayiti e pou jenès yo kap grandi demen.

Bonne Année
I hope that Haiti will survive. We all love our country of birth but our country Haiti is still in great danger of extinction. A country without hope will cease to grow and will become a deserted place full of vultures and predators. It is now a bit late to rescue this island which had such a noble past. But I pray that we will find a few souls among us to help Haiti in her stage of pre-agony.
Too much talk and not enough sef determination to help Haiti. We talk a lot and accomplish so little for this beautiful island.
I am close to tears and will not say more.
