Wasted Money!

According to some news reports and the representative of the United Nations in Haiti, the MINUSTAH spent $500 millions in just six months. If we extrapolate, they will spend $1 billion in one year. That money will not contribute an iota to the future economic development of Haiti. The question is:"Will Haiti have to repay part, or all of that money?" In addition, of the promised so-called aid to Haiti, only 10% of that money since the ouster of President Arisitide, about $100 millions, was disbursed, according to the UN rep.

I can't help wondering how this money would have been better used, had the USA and the International community provided it to the Aristide government, with some strings attached, in the first years of his second term. Had this been done, instead of financing the Convergence and the parallel government of Gérard Gourgue - is the first name, Gérard, a curse for Haiti? - isn't it reasonable to speculate
that perhaps it would not have been necessary to spend that much money sending watchdogs in Haiti.

The UN - a.k.a. the USA - should take notice. What is less expensive to do? Monitor a government, even if perceived out of line, but invest the money in a way that has more chances of solving the problem in the long run, or spend it on interventions to make the climate favorable for investing that original money in future development. That sounds like a no-brainer to me. It is time that an ill advised elite, the haitian one, is not allowed to lead a more pragmatic one, the international one. The US and the others should have known not to listen to an elite that has not produced any results in 200 years.
