Royal Bonbon ( Royal Bonbon ), 2002 Charles Najman Feature 85 minutes Film Subtitled The past grandeur of Haiti, one of the first black republics, is recreated here through the mad delusions of a man who believes himself to be Henri Roi Christophe, former slave and liberator of the island. This spirit-filled, burlesque tragic-comedy merges facts and fantasy, memory and myth, to unearth the mystical roots of modern-day Haiti. Filmed beautifully in Cap Haitien using local peasants as actors and San Souci in Milot as a backdrop for much of the film. Dancer, singer and vodou priest Erols has a role in the film.
