In the 1960's, during the dictatorship of "Papa Doc" Duvalier, highly symbolic tale of Haiti's hopes and desires follows a woman haunted by nightmares of a man who put an end to her childhood.
In flashback of a Haitian woman's childhood experience under the Duvalier regime. Depictioning the repression, violence, pain, and fear a society under dictatorship. Left with her sisters in Haiti by their parents who had no choice but to leave the country and go into exile in Cuba the main character is under the guidance of her grandmother. They live in the attic and hide from the Ton Tons Macoute, Papa Doc's private militia, exposed to the harsh reality of repression and the effects her family and home.
