Konpa and Afrobeat

Post by Zanfanginen » Fri Jul 06, 2007 12:05 am

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the passing of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the father of Afrobeat, which is a mix of african rhythm and funk à la James Brown. I went to concerts of his two sons, Femi and Seun, during the Montreal Jazz Festival and I was quite suprised and disappointed that many haitians don't know anything about Afrobeat and its creator. All of this makes me wondering if it is possible that some konpa artist will infuse Afrobeat to create a new sound that would capture the imagination of many people, especially with the way konpa and the music scene in general are today.

I hope that I can get some answers about it.

Zanfanginen,

Mwen Aysyen anjeneral pi konen mizik Soukous la pase lòt bagay. Men youn nan gwo avantay mwen kwè mizisyen ayisyen genyen, se ke yo ka jwe nenpòt ki kalite mizik e mwen konen pami yo nèg ki kon jwe mizik ki soti nan peyi Congo ak mizik soukous ki soti nan Cameroun.

Men ou gen rezon, anjeneral, Ayisyen pa kon mizik afriken byen ditou, ale wè pou yo ta konen sa ki rele Afrobeat. Se pami mizisyen yo sèl
