Emperor Dessalines and Egypt?

Post by Empress Verite » Sat Oct 07, 2006 7:11 pm

Hey Ja!

What are you saying here? Please forgive me because I did not understand well what you wrote. Are you saying that you have seen some message in Cairo, Egypt regarding "Majesty" Dessalines? And where exactly is it written? I heard (anecdotedly) that Napolen blew up the Sphinx's nose because he looked like Toussaint L'ouverture? Do you know if that's true? And since I am assuming that you're there and you see it (him) do they look alike for real?

Anyway, some woman on the Corbett list once wrote and told me that Ayiti means "what's mine is mine" in Hausa. A language spoken by a large ethnic group primarily in Nigeria, West Africa.

Have fun in Cairo. It is an interesting connection to try to make between North Africa and Black sub Saharan Africans and Haitians. (Didn't Bob Marley have Egyptian relatives?)

Take care. This is wild!

To honor Dessalines, it's past time for a Dessalines Gourdes

Post by Ezili Danto » Sat Oct 07, 2006 8:38 pm

Jaf,

Ki jan ou ye fre-mwen?

Se premye fwa mwen tande ke mo "AYITI" a, "se yon melanj mo Afriken ki vle di TE SA A SE PA NOU POU NOU OKIPE L."

How serendipitous can you get. That "AYITI" could possibly have a powerful meaning both in the language of the Taino/Arawaks and a remembered meaning from Africa.....

Lafimen ......

Wonderful to hear that all the way where you are, Ayiti lives because Dessalines lived and left an indelible impression.

These weeks as we focus on Dessalines, I learn more and more. It's like he is INSISTING on being present in our lives with marks of his achievements and triumphs put in evidence. For instance, I had no idea that no Haitian bill has a picture of Dessalines. One Haitian wrote to Ezili Dantò lamenting this, said there's only the pictures of Dessalines' murderer. Which he identified as "Petion" on the Haitian gourdes. Since I was being asked the question and take a position, and I didn't know why the Haitian govrenment has not printed Gourdes with Dessalines in them, I was fairly stomped except to say, Dessalines has always been disrespected by the powers-that-be and to suggest perhaps our generation need look outwards together and do something about this Gourdes issue. I couldn't help but bring this to HLLN in general as definitely something someone must write about. Imagine the US printing its money and not ever honoring George Washington.

Looking at some Haitian notes I still had in my wallet I see, in addition to the "L'union Fait La Force" crest, photos of Henri Christophe, Lysuys Fèlicitè Salomon Jeune and the Palais De Justice

If, in fact there is NO Dessalines on any of Haiti's money, isn't this a HUGE shame and wouldn't this bicentennial year of his assassination be the perfect time for the current government to launch such a beautiful commemmoration by righting this wrong in 2006.

What does it mean, that the founder of the nation is not represented in the money of the country? Is it a message? Does it mean the masses he freed are to forever have NO MONEY of their own in Haiti? Uhmmmmm

Jaf, is this true. Is there no Gourdes or Haitian coins with Dessalines bust on it?

KMT & AYITI TOMA

SE PLACIDE KI VOYE TEKS SA A. LI TE GEN DIFIKILTE

Fanmitay leksik : lang Ejip farawon yo, lang Lafrik yo ak lang kreyòl afro-ayisyen an.

Msye demontre, avèk divès agiman lenguistik, plizyè resanblans ki egziste ant mo nan lang ejipsyen yo ak mo nan lang Lafrik yo, tankou nan lang Wolòf la.

Nan menm liy travay sa a, nou jwenn Théophile Obenga ki ekri L'Afrique dans l'antiquité, Égypte pharaonique / Afrique Noire ( 1985 ). Genyen tou, Alain Anselin ki fè pati pwogram rechèch UNIRAG ( Unité Recherche-action Guadeloupe ). Alain Anselin ekri Samba (1992 ). Enfòmasyon li bay nan p. 86-87 yo ka fè nou konprann pi byen fonksyon ak non sanba kreyòl nan kilti afro-aysyen an.

Nan youn moman kote Jafrikayiti ak anpil lòt moùn ap fè rapwochman ant ( kilti ) Ejip farawon yo avèk ( kilti ) Ayiti, lè nou apiye nou sou travay twa otè sa yo ( Diop, Benga ak Anselin ), nou gen baz solid pou nou fè youn konparezon ak lang kreyòl la. Se konsa, semèn pase a, nou te pwofite fè youn ti rechèch rapid nan leksik kreyòl afro-ayisyen an. Epi, nou tonbe debiske plizyè mo kreyòl afro-ayisyen ki gen rapò osnon ki gen rasin yo nan lang Ejip farawon yo. Bouskay sa yo pwouve aklè, (lontan lontan, lontan anvan Lafrans te vin mete pye li sou tè Ayiti a,) lang Lafrik yo se premye zansèt kreyòl afro-ayisyen an.

Mezanmi, gade pa boule je!

0- Toma : peyi, teritwa, pèp … ( cf. Ayiti toma, peyi Ayiti toma, nèg Ayiti toma )

· Etimoloji : Selon Alain Anselin ( 1992 ), t3 ( ejipsyen ) = pays, territoire.

( km = Cham, noir ; t = t3 = pays, territoire )

Nan fanmitay lenguistik ki genyen ant Lejip ak Lafrik, daprè travay twa otè nou te deja bay non yo a : t = t3 = tò = pays. ( cf. Dictionnaire Fon/Français, R.P.B. Segurola, 1963, p. 516 ak 522 )

Konsa, sòti Lejip, pase Lafrik, tonbe Ayiti : t = t3 = tò = to = tomè= toma. Apre chanjman fonetik ki fèt yo, Ayiti tomè vin tounen Ayiti toma = peyi Ayiti.

Men kèk egzanp nou jwenn nan youn chante vodoun ki pale sou fòm daki, youn fòm ansyen kreyòl afro-ayisyen an.

· Egzanp : Nou wa tomè Ayiti = nou rive peyi Ayiti

Nou wa djè Ayiti = nou rive tonbe Ayiti

Ayiti tomè wè mi = peyi Ayiti se noumenm

Ayiti to adji djo = peyi Ayiti yo lese nou sou li a

Ayiti wa mè ga bé = Ayiti (kote) nou vini pou yon ti bout tan an.

Egzanp sa yo sòti nan Huenouho, youn mo nan lang Fon, Lafrik Ginen, epi ki vle di : Pawòl ansyen, Pawòl tan lontan, Pawòl granmoùn lontan. Se youn tèks istorik, youn chante vodoun ki ekri nan ansyen kreyòl afro-ayisyen an, houngan Max Beauvoir fè parèt tèks sila sou sit entènèt li a, ( http://www.vodou.org ), epi Jafrikayiti te reprann li nan agiman li t'ap devlope anndan tèks sou Ejip li a. (cf. diskisyon Jafrikayiti sou )

Sa vin bay nan kreyòl afro-ayisyen an : Ayiti tomè = Ayiti toma = peyi Ayiti.

Pou nou bay diskisyon an plis jèvrin, men youn seri mo nou jwenn ankò nan kreyòl afro-ayisyen an. Nou kwè yo kapab konekte fasilman ak mo ejipsyen osnon ak mo wòlòf nou kontre anndan twa liv ( Diop, Benga ak Anselin ) nou sot pale yo.

1- Nyik ( yik ) : zing , youn ti zing, youn ti ynik, youn ti kal, youn ti priz

· Egzanp : zaboka rèk se bè malere.

· Kòmantè : Mo rèk nan kreyòl la ka sòti tou nan ( jeque), ki parèt nan lang espayòl la depi lane 1580, ki vini apati yon orijin arab tou, epi ki vle di ansyen. ( Joan Corominas, 1987 ).

3- Touf : onomatope pou youn touf krache

· Etimoloji : tf ( ejipsyen ) = salive, humidité ; tef, tuf ( wolòf) = krache; touf ( awousa ) = krache;

· Kòmantè : tcheke espresyon tankou : toufa ! toufè! ki gen menm etimoloji a tou. Egzanp : toufè! toufè! madichon! satanjerenòs! (cf. Guerdy Jacques Préval, 2004)

· Egzanp : Jozèf pa konn tchoka fanm.

· Kòmantè : Théophile Obenga rapwoche : soka ( lingala ) = hache, avèk etimoloji ejipsyen an. Genyen tou : choka, machoka ( swahili ) = hache, ki kapab gen menm etimoloji an tou. Nan kreyòl afro-ayisyen an, nou kapab etabli youn rapò ant mo kongo a osnon mo mandenng nan ak mo kreyòl tankou : tchake, tchaka, tchakala. Youn dènye egzanp : enjenyè a machoke travay la ban mwen.

6- Kin : fò, di, fèm, rèd, djanm

· Etimoloji : kn ( ejipsyen ) = être fort, titre militaire; kni = trône

· Egzanp : sanba konsekan kanpe kin pou defann dwa moùn.

· Kòmantè : tcheke an anglè, king = roi.

· Egzanp : Kounye a, tout konvèjans pe bouch yo, yo rete mwèt.

8- Mwèt : vale manje avèk vorasite ( cf. vale pawòl, vale kriye ak dlo nan je )

· Etimoloji : b3 (ejipsyen ) = bélier ; agbo ( yowouba ) = bélier ; gbo ( fon ) = bélier

· Egzanp : Bosou twa kòn se youn lwa vodoun.

10- Sore : nèg ki gen fòs ak pisans.

· Etimoloji : swr ( ejipsyen ) = fort, puissant, parce que bien nourri.

· Egzanp : Te gen you jwè foutbòl yo te bay non vanyan : Gwo sore.

Toujou, daprè 3 otè mwen sot bay non yo anwo a.

11- Dap : onomatope pou lè ou poze men ou pou sezi youn bagay.

· Etimoloji : dap = attraper, saisir, serrer rapidement, promptement.

12- Dappiyanp : sezi youn bagay rapidman

· Kòmantè 1: konpare kenbe (kreyòl) avèk keep (anglè) parapò ak ngëb (wòlòf). Gade chanjman lenguistik yo (fonetik, semantik, …) ki fèt nan mo yo.
