There are several pastors with good academic training and graduate degrees in the area.

That's not the reality as I know it. And there is nothing ironic about the protestant churches counting more adherents than the catholic churches either. For one, protestant believers are encouraged to bring their bibles to church, read it and study it (even at home), and they participate in the services also.
